Weingut Rings Das Kreuz is a powerful Pfalz red designed in the spirit of Bordeaux, combining Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot with the regional variety St. Laurent. Sourced from the warm, highly regarded Schwarzes Kreuz vineyard in Freinsheim and presented here in a generous magnum, it is the flagship of the Rings range and offers an impressive alternative to far more expensive Bordeaux blends.

Tasting Notes
The wine is expected to show a deep, dark colour, with an intense nose of blackcurrants, smoked ham, bitter chocolate and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it combines concentrated dark fruit with fine mineral nuances, noticeable yet supple tannins and well-integrated oak from barrique ageing. The 2023 vintage should be approached as a young wine with considerable development potential; careful cellaring will allow the fruit, spice and structure to become even more harmonious.

Production
The grapes come from Schwarzes Kreuz, one of the warmest and most distinguished sites around Freinsheim in the Pfalz. The blend unites the Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot with St. Laurent, giving the wine both international depth and a distinctly German identity. It is matured in barriques, where the oak is integrated into the wine’s dark fruit, mineral character and firm structure. Specific harvesting and vinification details for the 2023 vintage are not provided.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Das Kreuz is a natural match for roasted or grilled beef, venison, lamb, hearty stews and dishes with earthy mushroom or truffle flavours; its dark fruit and rounded tannins also work well with mature hard cheeses. Decanting is recommended when serving it young, ideally for one to two hours, while older bottles may benefit from gentle decanting to remove any sediment.
