Description

From Mittelheimer Sankt Nikolaus, a Rheingau Grand Cru vineyard shaped by its close proximity to the Rhine, this Riesling brings together ripe fruit, freshness and a pronounced mineral character. The site is home to some of Weingut P.J. Kühn’s oldest Riesling vines, with some more than 65 years old.

Tasting Notes
The supplied tasting note is for the 2020 vintage, so it should be read as a guide to the vineyard’s style rather than a definitive description of the 2024. That wine showed a deep, savoury nose of yellow and dried fruit, chamomile, herbs and stony mineral notes, with a hint of petrichor.

Production
Sankt Nikolaus lies beside the Rhine, whose reflected light and moderating influence help shape conditions in the vineyard. Sandy, calcareous loess soils and old vines contribute to the site’s character. The available production details refer to the 2020 vintage: carefully hand-harvested grapes were gently pressed, fermented spontaneously and aged for 16 months on full lees in traditional Stück and Doppelstück casks. The 2024 vintage’s specific methods have not been provided.
