Weingut Markus Molitor, Schiefersteil Riesling, 2023

Schiefersteil 2023 captures the brisk, slate-shaped character of the Mosel in a clear, purist Riesling. Its name means “slate-steep,” a reference to the region’s dramatic vineyard slopes and the blue-grey slate beneath the vines.

Tasting Notes
Glassy and bright in appearance, it offers fresh fruit aromas and a pronounced mineral character. The palate is crisp and lively, with refreshing acidity and a taut, almost electric slate impression.

Production
The grapes grow on steep slopes in the Middle Mosel, where reflected sunlight from the river helps them ripen in the region’s cool climate. Blue-grey slate in the soils contributes to the wine’s distinctive mineral character. The wine was aged with its skins for added flavour and aroma, then matured on its lees in stainless-steel tanks and neutral wooden casks.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, straight from the refrigerator, to highlight its freshness. It should pair well with seafood, light dishes and fresh cheeses; decanting is not necessary.
