The nose opens with classic cool-climate Silvaner aromatics: green notes of fresh-cut hay, fennel and woodruff, joined by crisp Granny Smith apple and a subtle herbal lift. Nothing is loud or overpowering here; the aromas are understated yet detailed, unfolding gradually with air. On the palate, the wine is fine-boned and elegant rather than opulent. Floral accents weave through a gentle yellow-fruit core – think lightly ripe pear and a hint of mirabelle – supported by a playful, well-integrated acidity. Silvaner Attila is sourced from a single, historic parcel on the Heiligen Blutberg in Rheinhessen, home to some of Weingut Heiligenblut’s oldest vines, many over 70 years of age. Rooted deep in the region’s mineral-rich soils, these old vines naturally produce very low yields, concentrating flavor and terroir expression in each grape. The fruit is harvested entirely by hand to ensure only perfectly healthy bunches are selected. In the cellar, the must undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, reflecting the character of the vineyard rather than the imprint of winemaking interventions. The wine is left un-fined, preserving texture and aromatic complexity, and receives only a minimal sulfur addition just before bottling. The result is a pure, unadorned expression of old-vine Silvaner, captured in just 833 bottles for the 2021 vintage.
