Description

This 2022 Chardonnay from Weingut Giegerich brings together the estate’s selected barrels, including those initially intended for its Chardonnay Reserve. Despite full barrique ageing, it keeps oak in balance with fresh fruit, lively acidity and subtle smoky notes.

Tasting Notes
Fresh and inviting, the nose combines discreet green-fruit aromas with restrained, finely smoky accents; the oak remains well integrated rather than dominant. On the palate, bright acidity gives the wine energy and freshness, while the carefully balanced fruit and barrel character reflect the quality of the selected lots.

Production
Philipp and Kilian Giegerich chose not to release a separate Chardonnay Reserve in 2022: after tasting the barrels, they felt the warmer vintage lacked the extra tension, depth and complexity needed for that bottling. Instead, all barrels originally intended for the Reserve were blended into this Chardonnay. The wine was aged entirely in barriques; details about vineyard soils and harvest methods are not available.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 10–12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish, creamy pasta or dishes featuring mushrooms. A brief decant can help open the aromas, though it is not essential.
