Weingut Friedrich Becker’s Zensiert Kammerberg Pinot Noir Grand Cru 2017 is a striking example of German Pinot Noir with a distinctly Burgundian sensibility. Born out of a historic cross-border dispute, this wine carries both pedigree and personality, sourced from some of Becker’s finest limestone and sandstone parcels just across the French border.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a refined, elegant expression of Pinot Noir with a cool, precise character. The nose opens with wild cherries, cranberries, subtle smoke from oak, and layered notes of herbs, tea leaf, and wet chalk. The palate is taut and focused, with finely polished tannins and a lively, juicy core that carries the fruit through a long, mineral finish. Beautifully balanced and highly composed, it has the structure to develop gracefully over time, gaining added complexity with bottle age.

Production
The grapes come from top-quality limestone and sandstone sites in the Kammerberg and nearby parcels, located just over the French border in the southern Pfalz. Harvesting is done by hand, followed by spontaneous fermentation with a high proportion of whole clusters to enhance aromatic lift, texture, and freshness. The wine is then matured for around 18 months in French barriques, with only a small percentage of new oak to preserve purity and the vineyard’s mineral character.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with duck, roast poultry, veal, mushroom dishes, and delicately seasoned game. Serve slightly cool, ideally around 15–16°C, and consider decanting briefly if opening while young to allow the aromatics and texture to fully unfold.
