Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Frühlingsplätzchen GG is pale straw with green highlights, signaling its youth and tension. The nose opens with finely etched aromas of lime zest, white grapefruit, and crunchy green apple, layered with white peach, fresh herbs, and a distinct flinty, wet-stone minerality. Subtle floral notes—think white blossom and a hint of chamomile—add lift and delicacy. Production
The Frühlingsplätzchen vineyard in Monzingen is one of the Nahe’s great sites, characterized by steep slopes with predominantly red slate and sandstone soils that warm quickly and drain well, yielding wines of lifted aromatics and incisive minerality. Emrich-Schönleber farm these parcels meticulously, with careful canopy management and low yields, and the Riesling is harvested by hand in multiple passes to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes are selected. Vinification is deliberately gentle and traditional: the grapes undergo a light pressing, followed by a spontaneous fermentation with ambient yeasts, typically in a mix of stainless steel and large, neutral wooden casks. Extended time on the fine lees adds texture and complexity without sacrificing the wine’s hallmark clarity and precision.
