Wayfarer Pinot Noir The Traveler 2022 is a rare, highly polished Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir with real cult appeal. Made from a so-called “suitcase clone” brought in from elsewhere and carefully tended at Wayfarer Vineyard, it combines intrigue, precision, and serious elegance in one limited-production release. Only just over 100 cases were made, which adds to its desirability.

Tasting Notes
Deep in color for Pinot Noir, The Traveler opens with a wonderfully lifted, layered nose of raspberry, blueberry, and cranberry, framed by dark chocolate, violets, Earl Grey tea, amaro, and a hint of dusty earth. It feels both fragrant and complex, with a certain coastal freshness running through the aromatics. On the palate, the wine shows impressive depth and weight without losing its Pinot Noir finesse. The fruit is concentrated and beautifully balanced by savory spice, fine-grained oak, and a long, elegant finish that keeps unfolding after each sip. With its structure and concentration, it should age gracefully for several years, gaining even more nuance over time.

Production
The Traveler comes from Wayfarer Vineyard in Sonoma Coast, California, where the cool coastal terroir gives Pinot Noir the tension, freshness, and aromatic lift it needs to shine. The wine is made from hand-harvested fruit that was carefully sorted and fully destemmed before fermentation. After vinification, it matured for 15 months in French oak barrels, including about two-thirds new oak, which helped shape the wine’s texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a Pinot Noir that deserves refined food pairings such as roast duck, quail, wild mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, or lamb with herbs. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 15–16°C, and consider a brief decant of 20–30 minutes if the wine is still tightly wound. It will show beautifully in a large Burgundy glass.
