Wayfarer Chardonnay The Estate 2021

Wayfarer Chardonnay The Estate 2021 is a beautifully crafted Sonoma Coast Chardonnay that easily invites comparisons to great white Burgundy, while remaining distinctly Californian in its richness and coastal freshness. Produced at the Wayfarer Vineyard under the guidance of winemaker Todd Kohn and owner Jayson Pahlmeyer, it combines precision, texture, and remarkable depth in a limited release of just 1,060 cases.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the polished, luminous character you’d expect from a top-tier coastal Chardonnay. The nose is layered and expressive, with citrus butterscotch, lime zest, mango, orange blossom, elderflower, and honey creating an aromatic profile that feels both generous and refined. The palate follows with pear, green apple, orange marmalade, creamy butter, and a subtle toast of roasted almonds. Full malolactic fermentation gives the wine a supple, rounded texture, while its coastal freshness keeps everything lifted and balanced. It should age gracefully for around 8–9 years, developing even more complexity over time.

Production
This Chardonnay comes from Wayfarer Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast, where the cool maritime climate helps preserve acidity and build aromatic intensity. After fermentation, the wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation and is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 65% of them new, adding structure, spice, and a layered, creamy character to the final blend.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for lobster, roast chicken with herbs, seared scallops, creamy pasta, or rich seafood dishes like Dover sole with beurre blanc. Serve slightly chilled, around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if you want the wine to open up more quickly and show its full aromatic range.
