Description
Voerzio Barbera d'Alba Il Cerreto is a vivid, expressive Barbera that captures the variety’s charm at its best, with generous fruit, precision, and a distinctly mineral edge. Produced in La Morra in the heart of the Langhe, it reflects Roberto Voerzio’s meticulous approach and the long-standing prestige of Barbera d’Alba as one of Piedmont’s most beloved red wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep dark ruby-red color. The nose is immediately inviting, with aromas of jammy berries, blackberry, and cherry, lifted by spicy nuances and a clear mineral line that adds definition and tension.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and supple, with soft tannins and the bright, lively acidity that is classic to Barbera. The finish is complex and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of fruit, spice, and minerality. It has the structure to develop well over the next several years, while still offering plenty of pleasure now.
Production
This wine comes from La Morra in the Langhe, where Barbera benefits from Piedmont’s ideal balance of warm days, cool evenings, and limestone-rich soils that help preserve freshness and aromatic clarity. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel, then aged for 12 months in tonneaux, 30% new and 70% used, followed by 8 months in stainless steel to refine the wine and preserve its purity of fruit.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine that works beautifully with rich pasta dishes, roasted meats, grilled sausages, mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses. Serve it at around 16-18°C, and while decanting is not essential, a short decant can help open up its aromatics and soften the wine’s structure if enjoyed young.
Producer
Roberto Voerzio is one of the most respected names in Piedmont, known for an uncompromising focus on vineyard quality, low yields, and exacting winemaking. Based in La Morra, he has helped define a modern standard for precision and elegance in Langhe wines, earning a strong reputation among collectors and Barbera lovers alike.
