Villa Russiz’s Grafin De La Tour Chardonnay Riserva 2021 is a richly textured, single-varietal Chardonnay from the renowned Collio hills of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Its careful oak maturation brings depth and complexity, while the wine pays tribute to Count Teodoro de La Tour, whose vision helped establish Villa Russiz’s winemaking tradition in the 19th century.

Tasting Notes
Golden reflections hint at the wine’s concentration. The nose combines ripe apple and citrus with notes of bread crust and vanilla, shaped by its time in oak. On the palate, it is deep and precise, with a full-bodied profile balanced by freshness and a measured oak influence.

Production
The Chardonnay vines grow on marl soils on south-facing slopes near Capriva del Friuli, trained using the Guyot system. The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September during the coolest part of the day, then gently pressed as whole bunches. The free-run must is fermented and matured in oak barrels before blending in stainless-steel tanks, followed by extended ageing in French oak and a further period of rest. Its concentration and structure suggest it can develop over several years, although no specific drinking window is provided.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 10–12°C with fine shellfish, seafood dishes or medium-aged cheeses; it also makes an elegant aperitif. A young bottle can benefit from a short period in the glass or around 15–20 minutes in a decanter to let its oak-derived aromas open.
