Sourced from the lower section of Villa Raiano’s 9-hectare vineyard in Castelfranci, this wine combines mountain freshness, structure, and the depth that has made Taurasi one of southern Italy’s most historic red wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby color that can begin to hint at garnet with time. The nose is layered and refined, with notes of dark cherry, plum, dried herbs, spice, and a subtle earthy minerality, often followed by hints of tobacco and leather as it opens. On the palate, Aglianico brings firm but polished tannins, vivid acidity, and a savory core of black fruit and spice. The finish is long and structured, making this a wine with excellent aging potential; it will develop greater complexity over the next several years and can continue to evolve gracefully with proper cellaring.

Production
The grapes come from the lower part of Villa Raiano’s 9-hectare vineyard in Castelfranci, in the province of Avellino, at around 500 meters above sea level. This elevated site helps preserve acidity while allowing the Aglianico grapes to ripen slowly and develop concentration. Harvesting is done by hand, and the fruit is transported to the cellar in small boxes to protect it from crushing and preserve quality. After fermentation, the wine is matured for about 12 months in oak barrels of different sizes, followed by 12 months in stainless steel tanks and a further 12 months in bottle before release. This careful élevage builds complexity while maintaining freshness and structure.

Villa Raiano Taurasi 2019 is a natural match for rich, flavorful dishes such as braised beef, lamb, game, roasted pork, and slow-cooked tomato-based pasta. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and hearty Mediterranean cuisine. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to help the wine fully open, especially when enjoyed young.
