Description
Vigne Piemontesi Barolo 2021 is a classic expression of Nebbiolo from the rolling Langhe hills of Piedmont, crafted for those who appreciate depth, nuance and authenticity. Produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes and aged in wood and bottle, it captures the stately elegance that has earned Barolo the title “the King of Wines and the Wine of Kings.” Created in collaboration with xtraWine, this cuvée offers access to one of Italy’s most prestigious and sought‑after wine styles at a remarkably compelling level of quality.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Vigne Piemontesi Barolo 2021 shows a luminous garnet core with brick‑tinged edges already hinting at Nebbiolo’s natural evolution. The nose opens with classic Barolo aromatics: dried roses and violets, red cherries, wild strawberries and orange peel, layered with notes of tar, licorice, leather and subtle spice from its time in wood.
On the palate, the wine is dry, full‑bodied and structured, with ripe red fruit framed by firm, finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavors of sour cherry, raspberry and pomegranate mingle with hints of tobacco, truffle, dried herbs and a gentle balsamic touch, leading to a long, savory finish. While accessible with air in its youth, this Barolo is built for aging; properly cellared, it can evolve beautifully over 10–15 years, gaining even more complexity, softness and tertiary notes of forest floor and dried fruit.
Production
The Nebbiolo grapes for Vigne Piemontesi Barolo 2021 are sourced from the Langhe hills in Piedmont, where calcareous clay and marl soils, cool nights and a continental climate allow for slow, even ripening and natural concentration of aroma and structure. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches at optimal maturity. After a traditional fermentation with extended maceration to extract color, tannin and aroma, the wine is aged in wood for an extended period, followed by further refinement in bottle. This combination of terroir, patient élevage and classic Barolo methods yields a wine that balances power, elegance and longevity.
Food & Serving
Vigne Piemontesi Barolo 2021 is an outstanding partner for richly flavored dishes such as braised beef, lamb shanks, osso buco, game, and traditional Piedmontese fare like brasato al Barolo or tajarin with truffle. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or mature Taleggio, and mushroom‑based dishes. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F). Decanting for 1–2 hours before serving is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the tannins to soften and the complex bouquet to fully open.
Producer
Vigne Piemontesi focuses on expressing the character of Piedmont’s great native varieties, with Barolo at the pinnacle of its range. Drawing on the region’s long winemaking heritage, the estate works closely with growers in the Langhe to capture Nebbiolo’s unique interplay of perfume, structure and minerality. This Barolo, crafted in collaboration with xtraWine, reflects both a respect for traditional methods—extended aging, careful selection of grapes—and a commitment to offering wines that represent the prestige of Piedmont at an accessible level, reinforcing the area’s reputation as one of Italy’s most important and historic wine regions.
