Description

Vigne Piemontesi Barbaresco 2022 is a classically styled Nebbiolo from the rolling hills of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso in Italy’s Piedmont region. Crafted to offer the elegance and finesse that define great Barbaresco, it shows the more graceful side of Nebbiolo while still delivering structure and depth. Often called the “gentler brother of Barolo,” this is a noble, refined red with the pedigree to develop beautifully in bottle.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barbaresco shows a luminous garnet core with brick-orange highlights at the rim, already hinting at Nebbiolo’s naturally evolving color. The nose is fragrant and layered, with notes of sour cherry, wild strawberry and dried rose petals intertwined with hints of violet, licorice, sweet spices and a subtle touch of tar and underbrush. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied yet finely etched, with bright red fruit, blood orange and savory herbal tones supported by firm but polished tannins. The acidity is vibrant, giving the wine lift and precision, while delicate hints of tobacco, leather and spice emerge on the long, dry finish. While approachable in its youth with some aeration, this 2022 Barbaresco has the structure to evolve gracefully for 8–12 years, gaining complexity and softer tannins over time.

Production
The Nebbiolo for Vigne Piemontesi Barbaresco 2022 is sourced from hillside vineyards in the heart of the Barbaresco DOCG, around the communes of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso. These slopes, with calcareous-clay and marl soils, provide excellent drainage and help concentrate flavor while preserving the variety’s hallmark perfume and acidity. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, a traditional approach is favored: gentle crushing and destemming, followed by an extended maceration to extract color, tannin and aromatic complexity from the Nebbiolo skins. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels, after which the wine is aged in wood (often large Slavonian or older oak casks) to refine tannins and integrate flavors, before further bottle aging prior to release.

Food & Serving
This Barbaresco is a natural partner for rich, savory dishes, especially those that highlight earthy and umami flavors. Pair it with braised meats, veal shank, roast lamb, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto, game birds, and aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or mature pecorino. It also shines alongside traditional Piedmontese specialties like tajarin with ragù or vitello tonnato (served after some bottle age). For optimal enjoyment, serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F). Young vintages like 2022 benefit from 1–2 hours in a decanter to open up the bouquet and soften the tannins; older bottles should be decanted more gently, mainly to separate from any sediment.

Producer
Vigne Piemontesi represents a collective commitment to showcasing the character of Piedmont’s classic grape varieties and appellations, with a particular focus on Nebbiolo’s most prestigious terroirs. Working closely with growers across key hillside zones, the project emphasizes traditional winemaking and an honest expression of origin rather than heavy-handed cellar techniques. In the context of Barbaresco, Vigne Piemontesi bottles aim to deliver the region’s hallmark finesse, aromatics and aging capacity in a style that is both authentic and accessible. This Barbaresco 2022 continues that mission, offering enthusiasts a refined taste of one of Italy’s most revered wine regions.
