Vieux Château Certan sits on the famed Pomerol plateau in Bordeaux, where its patchwork of clay, gravel and sandy soils provides ideal conditions for Merlot and Cabernet Franc to achieve both power and finesse. The 2019 blend is typically dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, each parcel harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve purity and balance. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified parcel by parcel, allowing the character of each terroir to be respected before blending. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, followed by élevage in French oak barrels (a proportion new) to add texture, polish the tannins and layer in subtle aromatic complexity, without overwhelming the natural character of the fruit.
