Vietti Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2018

Vietti’s 2018 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a finely detailed expression of one of Castiglione Falletto’s most renowned crus. Produced in a tiny 8,000-square-metre parcel, it combines remarkable precision and clarity with the polished texture that distinguishes Vietti’s single-vineyard Barolos. Only 3,693 bottles were produced, making this a particularly limited release for collectors of Piedmontese Nebbiolo.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays the deep ruby-red colour and developing garnet tones typical of mature Nebbiolo. Its aroma is precise and clearly defined, offering layers of red berries, rose petals, violets, spices and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, the 2018 is focused and beautifully balanced, with bright acidity, refined fruit and silky, carefully integrated tannins. Its polished texture makes it approachable with decanting, while the structure and freshness suggest excellent ageing potential over the next 10–15 years or more.

Production
Made from Nebbiolo grown in the Rocche di Castiglione cru in Castiglione Falletto, one of Barolo’s historic and highly regarded vineyard sites, this wine reflects the area’s combination of altitude, exposure and calcareous marl soils. The grapes are carefully selected from Vietti’s small parcel and vinified to preserve the vineyard’s precision and character. Like the other wines in Vietti’s cru range, the 2018 was matured for two years in oak, allowing the tannins and oak influence to integrate into its refined structure.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after decanting for approximately one to two hours, particularly if enjoying the wine in its youth. Its elegant structure and savoury depth make it an excellent partner for truffle tajarin, porcini risotto, braised beef, roast lamb and game. It will also complement mature hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno.
