In the glass, the 2021 Barbaresco Roncaglie shows a luminous, medium garnet core with brick-red reflections towards the rim – classic Nebbiolo color that hints at both finesse and grip. The nose is detailed and lifted, with aromas of violet, rose petals, wild strawberry, and red cherry layered over notes of orange zest, anise, sweet spices, and a subtle undercurrent of dried herbs and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet firmly structured, with fine-grained, chalky tannins and a vibrant, mouthwatering acidity. Flavors of red cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate are joined by hints of blood orange, licorice, tea leaf, and a slight savory-mineral edge that is very typical of Roncaglie. The oak is carefully judged, adding gentle spice and texture without overshadowing the fruit. Production
Roncaglie is a renowned cru near Treiso in Barbaresco, characterized by calcareous marl and clay soils with excellent exposure, giving Nebbiolo both aromatic lift and mineral-driven structure. The fruit for Vietti’s Barbaresco Roncaglie is typically hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, with careful selection in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only the best clusters are used. Fermentation usually takes place in temperature-controlled vessels with a relatively long maceration on the skins to extract color, tannin, and aromas in a gentle, controlled way. The wine is then aged in oak (often a mix of large Slavonian botti and smaller barrels) for an extended period to refine the tannins and integrate the flavors, followed by further bottle aging before release, in line with Vietti’s philosophy of releasing wines when they show both typicity and harmony.

Food & Serving
This Barbaresco is a superb match for refined yet flavorful dishes such as truffle risotto, tajarin with butter and sage, veal roast, braised lamb, game birds, and mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or mature Pecorino, as well as charcuterie with some fat and depth of flavor. Serve at around 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large Burgundy or Nebbiolo glasses to allow the bouquet to fully open. Decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth is recommended to soften the tannins and reveal the wine’s floral and spicy nuances; older bottles will need a gentler, shorter decant to separate sediment and preserve delicate aromatics.
