Description
Vezzoli Franciacorta Brut Millesimato 2020 is a precise, terroir-driven sparkling wine from the heart of Lombardy, crafted entirely from Chardonnay and Pinot Nero. This vintage Franciacorta stands out for its purity: no exogenous sugars are used at any stage, allowing the natural character of the grapes to shine through. As a Millesimato, it reflects the unique conditions of the 2020 harvest, offering a snapshot of a single, carefully selected year in one refined cuvée.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Franciacorta shows a luminous straw-yellow hue with fine, persistent bubbles that form a delicate mousse. The nose is elegant and focused, with notes of ripe citrus, green apple and pear layered over hints of white flowers, fresh brioche, and a subtle mineral edge.
On the palate, the wine is dry, vibrant, and beautifully balanced, combining a creamy texture with crisp, linear acidity. Flavours of lemon zest, crunchy orchard fruit, and a touch of stone fruit unfold alongside nuances of toasted almond and bakery notes from extended lees contact. The finish is clean, saline and long, marked by a clear sense of place and a precision that comes from using only grape must for the second fermentation and dosage. Enjoyable now for its freshness and tension, this 2020 Millesimato also has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 4–6 years, gaining more complexity and depth.
Production
The grapes come from hillside vineyards in Franciacorta, where glacial moraines, mixed stones and mineral-rich soils provide excellent drainage and lend tension and finesse to the wines. Chardonnay brings elegance and citrus-fruited clarity, while Pinot Nero contributes structure and subtle red-fruit complexity. The fruit is harvested at phenolic maturity to ensure optimal flavour development without sacrificing freshness. In line with Vezzoli’s philosophy, no exogenous sugars are used: only grape must is employed in all phases of vinification, including the tirage for the second fermentation and the final dosage. The base wines are carefully vinified, then refermented in bottle following the traditional method, resting on the lees to gain texture and complexity while preserving the integrity of the fruit and highlighting the character of the Franciacorta terroir.
Food & Serving
This Brut Millesimato is a versatile partner at the table, ideal with shellfish, oysters, sashimi, delicate fish dishes, and seafood risotto. It also pairs beautifully with light poultry, vegetable tempura, fresh cheeses, and refined appetizers such as carpaccio or tartare. Serve chilled at 6–8°C to emphasize its freshness and fine mousse. A brief decant in the glass, or opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving, is sufficient to let the aromas fully unfold; extended decanting is generally not necessary for this style.
