Why shop with us?
Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Brut Champagne 2008 is an exceptional prestige cuvée that captures the bold, refined spirit of Madame Clicquot. Built around an unusually high proportion of Pinot Noir, it combines structure, depth, and elegance in a way that sets it apart in the house’s portfolio and in Champagne’s modern history.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a graceful, polished golden hue with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with layered aromas of dried fruit, including almond, fig, and apricot, lifted by fresh pear and rounded out with hints of toasted hazelnut and praline.
The palate is intense yet silky, with a beautiful balance between richness and freshness. Notes of cherry and citrus bring precision and vibrancy, while the texture remains seamless and refined. This is a Champagne with excellent aging potential, and its complexity should continue to develop beautifully over time.
Production
La Grande Dame 2008 is sourced from Veuve Clicquot’s historic Grand Cru vineyards in Aÿ, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy, and Verzenay, with the Chardonnay coming from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The wine reflects the character of these revered Champagne terroirs, where chalky soils and cool climate conditions help preserve freshness, structure, and aromatic finesse. The vintage is composed of 92% Pinot Noir and 8% Chardonnay, vinified to emphasize precision, depth, and the hallmark tension of the La Grande Dame style.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is ideal with refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, turbot, truffle risotto, or roasted poultry with delicate sauces. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses and elegant seafood appetizers. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not recommended; a brief rest in the glass will be enough to open its aromas.
Producer
Champagne Veuve Clicquot is one of the most iconic houses in Champagne, founded in 1772 and forever shaped by the vision of Madame Clicquot. She helped define many of the techniques and standards that still influence Champagne production today, including early vintage bottlings and advancements in clarification. La Grande Dame, introduced as a tribute to her legacy, remains one of the house’s most celebrated expressions and a benchmark for prestige Champagne.
