Description

Velich Chardonnay Darscho 2023 is a characterful Burgenland Chardonnay that combines ripe fruit with finely judged French oak. Named after the saline Darscho lake in the Seewinkel, it offers a distinctive expression of the Velich family’s vineyards and stands on its own alongside the estate’s celebrated Tiglat Chardonnay.

Production
The grapes come from the Velich family’s vineyards in the Seewinkel, near Darscho lake east of Neusiedler See. The vines are between 20 and 40 years old, and the grapes are selectively hand-harvested. Fermentation begins spontaneously, followed by élevage in French barriques, whose influence is intended to complement rather than dominate the wine.

Food & Serving
Try it with roast chicken, grilled fish, creamy risotto or dishes featuring mushrooms. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. A short time in a carafe can help the wine open up, though extensive decanting is unlikely to be necessary.
