Description

Velenosi’s 2023 Villa Angela is a fragrant, approachable expression of Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, a distinctive red grape from Italy’s Marche region. Its vivid colour and signature floral character set it apart, while the wine also reflects the passion behind Velenosi, founded in Ascoli Piceno in 1984.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red with violet highlights, it opens with expressive aromas of strawberry and black cherry, lifted by notes of violet and rosebud. The palate is medium-bodied and rounded, with soft tannins and a pleasing balance of fruit and floral flavours.

Production
The vines grow at 150–200 metres above sea level in predominantly clay soils, trained using spur-pruned cordon. Grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September and carefully selected before destemming. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with around 20 days of skin maceration and daily pump-overs, mainly in closed tanks, to help preserve the grape’s aromatic character.

Food & Serving
Enjoy with charcuterie, flavourful starters, cheeses, lighter meats or vegetarian dishes. Decant for about an hour before serving to allow its floral aromas to open up; serve at a lightly cool red-wine temperature. Its fresh fruit and floral character is best enjoyed while youthful.

Founded in Ascoli Piceno in 1984 by Angela and Ercole Velenosi, Velenosi has become an established producer in Marche. Villa Angela showcases the region’s distinctive Lacrima grape, with careful, temperature-controlled winemaking designed to preserve its characteristic rose and violet aromas.
