Description
Vega Sicilia’s Valbuena 5º 2020 is one of the most sought-after expressions from Ribera del Duero, combining remarkable depth with elegance and precision. Crafted by one of Spain’s most iconic estates, it offers a modern, refined take on the region’s powerful Tempranillo-based style while carrying the prestige of a name that has shaped Spanish fine wine for generations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Valbuena 5º 2020 typically shows a deep ruby core with excellent clarity and concentration. The nose is layered and polished, with aromas of ripe dark berries, plum, cedar, violets, tobacco, cocoa, and subtle spice, all supported by a finely integrated oak profile.
The palate is structured yet silky, with concentrated black fruit, fresh acidity, and finely grained tannins that give the wine both power and finesse. It finishes long and nuanced, with mineral, savory, and spicy undertones. While already impressive, it has the balance and structure to develop beautifully over many years.
Production
Produced in Ribera del Duero, a region known for its high-altitude vineyards, marked temperature variation, and poor, well-draining soils that encourage concentration and freshness. Valbuena 5º is sourced from Vega Sicilia’s estate vineyards and is crafted with meticulous selection and traditional precision, with vinification and ageing designed to preserve purity, texture, and complexity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, game, or rich mushroom dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least one hour if drinking young to allow the wine to खुल fully and soften its structure.
Producer
Vega Sicilia is Spain’s most legendary wine estate, founded in the 19th century and long regarded as a benchmark for quality in Ribera del Duero and beyond. The winery is celebrated for its disciplined viticulture, long ageing, and exceptional consistency, and it has played a defining role in establishing Spanish fine wine on the world stage.
