Description
Vallepicciola Toscana Armonia 2021 lives up to its name – “Armonia” meaning harmony – by bringing together classic Tuscan character with an elegant, Bordeaux-inspired twist. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, it offers a polished, modern style that still feels unmistakably Italian. This cuvée showcases Vallepicciola’s ability to balance ripe fruit, fine tannins and refreshing acidity into a wine that is both immediately approachable and capable of developing further complexity with time.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Toscana Armonia 2021 shows a deep, vibrant ruby red color with purple highlights along the rim, hinting at its youth and intensity. The nose is generous and layered: ripe blackberries, blackcurrants and morello cherries intertwine with notes of violet, dried herbs, sweet spices, cedar and a touch of graphite and cocoa from barrel aging.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a smooth, velvety texture. Sangiovese contributes bright red cherry fruit and lively acidity, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc bring structure, dark fruit and a subtle leafy, graphite edge; Merlot rounds everything out with supple plum notes and plush mid-palate weight. Fine-grained tannins are present but well integrated, leading to a long, balanced finish with hints of spice, tobacco and a savoury, earthy undertone. Enjoyable now with a brief aeration, it has the structure to age gracefully for 6–10 years from the vintage, gaining more tertiary notes of leather, forest floor and balsamic complexity.
Production
Vallepicciola is located in the gently rolling hills of Tuscany, in a landscape of vineyards, olive groves and woodland benefitting from a mix of clay, limestone and galestro soils that naturally limit yields and enhance concentration. Warm days and cooler nights help the grapes ripen fully while preserving freshness and aromatic complexity. The different varieties are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, often picked by hand to ensure only the best clusters reach the cellar. After careful sorting, the grapes are fermented separately in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve fruit purity and manage tannin extraction. The blend is then assembled and aged in a combination of French oak barrels and/or large casks (depending on the vintage and house style), adding complexity, structure and subtle spice while respecting the wine’s Tuscan identity.
Food & Serving
Toscana Armonia 2021 is a versatile partner at the table, ideal with grilled or roasted red meats, herbed lamb chops, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, and rich pasta dishes such as pappardelle al ragù or lasagne. It also works beautifully with aged cheeses like Pecorino Toscano, Parmigiano Reggiano and mature hard cow’s milk cheeses, as well as charcuterie boards featuring finocchiona and prosciutto. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) for optimal expression of fruit and aromatics. Decanting for 30–45 minutes before serving helps the wine open up, soften the tannins and reveal its full aromatic complexity, especially in its youth.
