Vallepicciola Mordese Cabernet Franc 2022

Vallepicciola Mordese Cabernet Franc is a polished Tuscan red that shows how expressive Cabernet Franc can be in the hills of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Made entirely from Cabernet Franc and aged in French oak, it combines ripe fruit, spice, and finesse with the structure expected from a serious IGT wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-red colour that immediately hints at concentration and depth. The bouquet opens with plum, cocoa powder, balsamic tones, and a layered spiciness that gives the wine a distinctly elegant Tuscan character. On the palate, it is full-flavoured and well-structured, with fine, silky tannins and a firm backbone balanced by ripe fruit and savoury complexity. The oak ageing adds polish and length without overpowering the grape, and the wine should continue to develop gracefully over the next several years.

Production
This wine comes from Vallepicciola’s vineyards in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the heart of Tuscany, where the combination of warm days, cool nights, and well-suited vineyard sites helps Cabernet Franc reach full aromatic ripeness. The grapes are harvested with care and undergo alcoholic fermentation and maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for around 20-25 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 100% new French oak barrels, followed by ageing in French oak for approximately 14-16 months.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Franc pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled beef, game, braised dishes, and rich pasta recipes with mushroom or herb sauces. Serve at around 16-18°C and consider decanting for about 1 hour to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.
