Description

Vallepicciola Boscobruno Pinot Nero 2022 is a refined and distinctly Tuscan expression of Pinot Noir, crafted in the rolling hills just outside Siena. This is not a copy of Burgundy, but a Mediterranean interpretation of the grape, where bright fruit, fine tannins and a gentle, savory depth come together. For Pinot lovers curious about Italy’s growing talent with this variety, Boscobruno offers both character and value.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Boscobruno shows a luminous ruby-red hue with delicate garnet highlights, hinting at its finesse rather than power. The nose is fragrant and precise, offering notes of wild strawberries, raspberries and red cherries layered with rose petals, sweet spices, a touch of blood orange zest and a subtle earthy undertone. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, silky and vibrant, with juicy red fruit at the core and finely woven tannins that give shape without heaviness. Hints of white pepper, dried herbs and a gentle minerality add complexity through the mid-palate, leading to a fresh, lingering finish. The lively acidity keeps everything lifted, making this a very drinkable and food-friendly Pinot. Enjoyed in its youth for its purity of fruit, it should evolve gracefully over the next 4–6 years, gaining more tertiary notes of forest floor and spice with some bottle age.

Production
Vallepicciola lies in the hills of Castelnuovo Berardenga, on the southeastern edge of Chianti Classico, where altitudes, cooling breezes and mixed soils of clay, limestone and galestro (schistous marl) provide an excellent microclimate for Pinot Nero. Grapes are typically harvested by hand in small crates to preserve berry integrity and allow a strict selection in the vineyard and at the winery. After gentle crushing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels to safeguard the delicate aromatics of Pinot, with careful pump-overs or punch-downs to extract color and fine tannins rather than raw power. The wine is then matured in a combination of stainless steel and oak (often used barriques or tonneaux), allowing it to gain texture and complexity while keeping the fresh, red-fruited profile at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Boscobruno Pinot Nero 2022 is an exceptionally versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with dishes that echo its finesse rather than overwhelm it. Think roasted chicken with herbs, grilled salmon or tuna, mushroom risotto, charcuterie, and lighter meat dishes such as pork tenderloin or veal scaloppine. It also works well with Tuscan classics like pappardelle with porcini or mild pecorino cheeses. Serve at 14–16 °C; a brief 20–30 minutes in the fridge before opening is ideal. Younger bottles benefit from a short decant of about 30 minutes to let the aromatics open fully, especially if served soon after release.

Producer
Vallepicciola is a modern yet terroir-driven estate located near Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern reaches of Chianti Classico, an area long known for producing refined and structured Sangiovese. Over the last decades, the winery has invested heavily in both vineyards and cellar technology, planting not only traditional Tuscan varieties but also carefully selected international grapes such as Pinot Nero in the cooler, higher-altitude plots. This forward-thinking approach has positioned Vallepicciola as one of the estates to watch in the region, particularly for their ability to craft elegant, site-expressive wines that bridge Tuscan character with an international sensibility. Their growing reputation rests on meticulous vineyard work, sustainable practices and a consistent focus on quality across the range.
