Description
Valandraud 2017 is a highly sought-after Saint-Émilion wine from one of Bordeaux’s most influential modern estates. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé, it combines intensity, precision, and undeniable pedigree, reflecting the estate’s role in redefining Right Bank Bordeaux quality over the past few decades.
Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep, concentrated color with a polished, modern Bordeaux profile. Expect aromas of ripe blackberries, plum, graphite, cedar, violets, and subtle spice, followed by a full, layered palate with supple tannins, dark fruit depth, and a long, refined finish.
While already expressive in its youth, Valandraud 2017 has the structure and concentration to evolve beautifully over time. With careful cellaring, it should gain additional complexity, bringing more earthy, truffle-like, and savoury nuances as it matures.
Production
Produced in Saint-Émilion on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Valandraud benefits from limestone-rich terroir that helps balance ripeness with freshness and structure. The estate is known for meticulous vineyard work and selective harvesting, with grapes picked by hand and vinified with precision to preserve purity, concentration, and detail in the final blend.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as roasted lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, or game birds, as well as mushroom-based dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully.
Producer
Valandraud is a trailblazing Saint-Émilion estate founded by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud, and it became one of the key names associated with the rise of the Bordeaux "garagiste" movement. Its success helped challenge traditional expectations in the region, and the estate has since earned major recognition, including Premier Grand Cru Classé status, cementing its place among Bordeaux’s elite producers.
