Ugo Lequio Barbaresco Gallina Riserva 2019 is a refined, site-driven Nebbiolo from one of Barbaresco’s most admired crus. Sourced from the historic Gallina vineyard in Neive, it reflects the elegance, structure, and longevity that have made this area a benchmark for classic Piedmontese wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riserva is expected to show the pale garnet hue typical of well-made Nebbiolo, with subtle brick tones beginning to emerge as it develops. The nose is usually lifted and layered, offering red cherry, dried rose, violets, spice, and earthy nuances, with more depth and complexity as the wine opens. On the palate, Gallina tends to combine finesse with firm structure: bright red fruit, savory herbs, fine tannins, and vibrant acidity. The south-facing slopes and mature vines often lend impressive concentration and a long, persistent finish. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, likely to evolve beautifully over many years, gaining tertiary notes of truffle, leather, and dried fruit.

Production
Made entirely from Nebbiolo grown in the cru Gallina near Neive, this wine comes from vineyards planted in 1953, 1963, and 1971. The south-facing exposure helps the grapes achieve full ripeness while preserving the freshness and structure that define Barbaresco. Traditional careful harvesting and precise cellar work are used to express the character of the site, with vinification aimed at preserving elegance, balance, and the vineyard’s natural aging capacity.

Food & Serving
This Barbaresco is an excellent match for braised beef, veal, game birds, mushroom dishes, truffle risotto, and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours, especially in its youth, to help the wine open and show its full aromatic range.
