Tasting Notes
In the glass, Redigaffi 2021 shows a deeply saturated, almost opaque ruby-purple hue, hinting at its concentration and richness. The nose is layered and generous, offering dark cherry, ripe plum and dried blackberry, interwoven with notes of sweet spice, cocoa, tobacco leaf, and a subtle hint of graphite and espresso from fine French oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and seamless, with a dense core of dark fruit framed by remarkably soft, velvety tannins. Flavors of black cherry compote, black plum and blueberry are lifted by touches of licorice, clove, vanilla and a faint savory note of cured tobacco. The finish is long, plush and persistent, with excellent balance between richness and freshness. Redigaffi is famously monolithic in youth, and the 2021 is no exception: it is already impressive, but will benefit greatly from further bottle age. Expect a drinking window comfortably spanning 15–20 years from the vintage, with the wine gaining more nuance, truffle and tertiary complexity over time.

Production
Redigaffi is sourced from estate vineyards near Suvereto on the Tuscan coast, where Merlot thrives in a warm Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes. The vines are rooted in a mix of clay and mineral-rich soils with significant gravel and stones, which help with drainage and encourage low yields and concentration. Grapes are typically harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, at optimal ripeness to preserve both power and freshness. After rigorous sorting, the must is fermented in temperature-controlled tanks, allowing for gentle extraction of color, flavor and tannin. The wine is then aged in small French oak barriques—largely new—for an extended period (often around 18–20 months), during which it undergoes malolactic fermentation and gains its signature polish, texture and aromatic complexity before being bottled with minimal intervention.

Food & Serving
Redigaffi 2021 is best paired with equally luxurious and flavorful dishes: think slow-braised beef short ribs, bistecca alla fiorentina, lamb shanks, venison, or rich dishes featuring porcini mushrooms and truffle. It also works beautifully with mature hard cheeses such as aged Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano Reggiano. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large Bordeaux-style glasses to allow the aromas to unfold. In its youth, this wine benefits from at least 2 hours of decanting; for optimal enjoyment over the next decade, don’t hesitate to give well-stored bottles 3+ hours in a decanter to help the structure relax and the complexity fully express itself.
