Tua Rita Merlot Redigaffi 2024

Tua Rita’s Redigaffi is a distinguished Tuscan Merlot from Suvereto, celebrated for expressing the grape with remarkable depth, structure and refinement. First created in 1994, this iconic wine helped establish pure Merlot as a serious force in Italian winemaking and became the first Italian wine to receive a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker.

Tasting Notes
Deep and richly coloured, Redigaffi opens with an intense bouquet of dark forest berries, oriental spices and hints of cocoa bean. The palate is full-bodied and beautifully persistent, combining concentrated fruit with polished tannins and a pronounced mineral backbone. Nuances of tobacco, liquorice and subtle oak add complexity to the long finish. With its substantial structure, balanced acidity and refined tannin profile, the 2024 vintage has excellent potential for further development in bottle. Properly stored, it may evolve gracefully for up to 25 years, revealing increasing savoury and tertiary complexity over time.

Production
The Merlot vines are located near Suvereto on the Tuscan coast, at approximately 100 metres above sea level. Trained using the cordon method with spur pruning and planted at high density, the vines grow in clay-rich soils marked by stones and deposits of iron and zinc, giving the wine its distinctive mineral and structured character. The grapes are harvested by hand, with the best bunches selected in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in truncated-cone tanks for approximately one month, encouraging careful aromatic and tannic extraction. The wine is then matured for around 18 months in first-use French oak barriques with medium toasting, followed by a period of rest in the cellar.

Food & Serving
Redigaffi is an excellent match for richly flavoured dishes such as roasted or braised game, beef, venison and other red meats. Its depth and savoury tannins also complement mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended when enjoying the wine young, while older bottles should be decanted carefully to separate any sediment and allow the aromas to unfold.
