Description

Trinchero Nebbiolo Nobius 2015 is a pure, characterful expression of Nebbiolo from the hills of Piemonte, crafted with a distinctly traditional, low‑intervention touch. The excellent 2015 vintage brings ripeness, precision and balance, allowing the grape’s haunting perfume and structure to shine. This is Nebbiolo made with patience and restraint, offering depth without heaviness and authenticity over flashiness.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Nobius 2015 shows a luminous medium ruby hue with garnet reflections at the rim, already hinting at some bottle evolution. The nose is generous and complex: sweet‑toned but not jammy red fruit, especially fully ripe strawberries, mingles with notes of leather, earth, dried flowers and wild herbs. Subtle darker fruit tones and a gentle, savory spice weave through, rounded out by classic violet and a faint, autumnal dryness. On the palate, the wine is juicy yet resolutely dry, with Nebbiolo’s hallmark tannins present but rounded and well‑integrated. The attack is supple, then tightens across the mid‑palate, giving a firmer, more structured impression than the fragrant nose suggests. Fresh acidity keeps the wine vibrant and food‑friendly, while the finish lingers with red fruit, floral and earthy nuances. Drinking beautifully now, the 2015 has the structure to evolve further over the next 5–8 years, gaining more tertiary complexity and polish.

Production
The Nobius Nebbiolo is sourced from Trinchero’s estate vineyards in Piemonte, where the classic combination of calcareous clay soils, hillside exposures and a continental climate with marked diurnal shifts brings both ripeness and tension to the grapes. The fruit is harvested by hand with strict selection in the vineyard, then carefully destemmed and macerated. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, with no sulfur added during this phase, allowing a transparent expression of grape and place. After fermentation, the wine is aged for about one year in large 1,500‑liter casks made from untoasted Slavonian oak, a traditional choice that imparts texture and micro‑oxygenation without overt wood flavor. Before bottling, the wine is neither fined nor filtered and is only minimally sulfured, preserving its natural character and aromatic complexity.

Food & Serving
This Nebbiolo is a superb companion to classic Piemontese cuisine such as tajarin pasta with ragù, vitello tonnato, braised veal or beef, and truffle‑accented dishes. It also pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, game birds, roasted lamb, and aged semi‑hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or mature Tome. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatics and structure. A short decant of 30–60 minutes is recommended for younger or recently opened bottles to allow the bouquet to unfold and the tannins to soften further.

Producer
Ezio Trinchero’s Antica Azienda Agricola is a small, historic family estate in Piemonte, known among insiders for its steadfast commitment to traditional, low‑intervention winemaking. Working with classic local varieties and old‑school methods, the Trinchero family has long championed farming and cellar practices that favor authenticity, minimal manipulation and a clear sense of place. In a region famous for Nebbiolo, they stand out for their use of native yeasts, large neutral oak casks and minimal sulfur, crafting wines that are soulful, ageworthy and deeply rooted in Piemontese heritage. Their reputation among enthusiasts and sommeliers continues to grow as drinkers seek wines of character and integrity.
