Description
Tre Secoli Brachetto Acqui Rosé Brut is a lively, dry sparkling rosé from Piemonte that shines a light on one of the region’s lesser-known treasures: the Brachetto grape. Traditionally used for sweet, aromatic reds and sparkling wines, Brachetto here is reimagined in a crisp, modern Italian style that emphasizes freshness and vibrant red-fruit character. Recommended by Magasinet Gastro in December 2023, it offers an elegant balance of floral charm and mouthwatering acidity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a delicate, shimmering rosé hue with fine, persistent bubbles that create an inviting, lively mousse. The nose is fragrant and expressive, with aromas of ripe red strawberries, crushed raspberries, violets, and freshly picked rose petals, all wrapped in a light, perfumed lift typical of Brachetto.
On the palate, Tre Secoli Brachetto Acqui Rosé Brut is fresh and crisp, with a clean, dry profile that contrasts beautifully with Brachetto’s naturally aromatic character. Flavors of wild strawberries, redcurrant, and raspberry mingle with hints of rhubarb and subtle floral notes, supported by a lively, refreshing acidity. The mousse is fine and creamy, giving the wine a smooth, easy-drinking texture. This is a wine meant to be enjoyed in its youth for maximum vibrancy and aromatic intensity; while it can hold for 1–2 years, it is at its best within the first year after release.
Production
The fruit for this Brachetto Acqui Rosé Brut comes from vineyards in Piemonte, where the rolling hills and a mix of clay-limestone soils provide both freshness and aromatic intensity to the grapes. The climate, with warm days and cooler nights, helps preserve acidity while allowing Brachetto to develop its hallmark floral and red-berry profile. Grapes are carefully harvested to retain bright fruit and moderate alcohol, then gently pressed to achieve the delicate rosé color. Fermentation is carried out at controlled, cool temperatures to lock in freshness and aromatics, most likely in tank using the Charmat method, ideal for preserving primary fruit. After fermentation, the wine rests for three months on its lees (bærmen), adding a touch of creaminess, texture, and complexity to the otherwise brisk, fruit-driven style before final bottling under pressure.
Food & Serving
This dry, fragrant sparkling rosé is a versatile partner at the table and a natural choice as an aperitif. Its bright acidity and fine bubbles make it ideal with light starters, such as charcuterie, smoked salmon, or fresh chèvre on toast, as well as delicate fish and seafood dishes—think shrimp cocktails, grilled prawns, ceviche, or simple white fish with herbs and lemon. It can also complement sushi and lighter vegetable-based antipasti. Serve well-chilled at about 6–8°C to highlight its freshness and red-berry notes. Decanting is not necessary; simply open and pour, allowing the wine a minute or two in the glass for the floral aromatics to unfold.
Producer
Tre Secoli is a leading cooperative-based producer in Piemonte, born from the merger of two historic local co-ops whose roots stretch back across three centuries—hence the name, which translates to “three centuries” and symbolizes continuity and tradition. Bringing together the work of numerous small growers, Tre Secoli has become a major player in the region, offering a broad range of wines that showcase Piemonte’s diversity. They are especially known for their expertise in Barbera d’Asti and in crafting high-quality sweet and sparkling wines, including those from lesser-known local varieties like Brachetto. By combining deep regional knowledge with modern winemaking, Tre Secoli has helped to keep classic Piemontese styles relevant and accessible to a new generation of wine drinkers.
