Description
Tramin Sauvignon Pepi 2024 is a vibrant, mountain-born expression of Sauvignon Blanc from the cool, sunlit slopes of Alto Adige in Northern Italy. Crafted by the renowned Cantina Tramin cooperative, this wine combines Alpine freshness with Mediterranean ripeness, resulting in a Sauvignon that is both intensely aromatic and beautifully precise. It stands out for its purity of fruit, mineral backbone, and the meticulous care of more than 300 small growers whose vineyards dot the steep hillsides of Südtirol.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Tramin Sauvignon Pepi 2024 shows a pale straw-yellow color with bright green highlights, signaling its youth and freshness. The nose is immediately expressive, offering lifted aromas of citrus zest, grapefruit, lime leaf, and green apple, layered with notes of gooseberry, fresh herbs, elderflower, and a subtle stony minerality that reflects its Alpine origins.
On the palate, the wine is crisp, linear, and energetic, with a lively acidity that carries flavors of lemon, grapefruit, white peach, and crunchy green pear. Hints of nettle, sage, and white currant add complexity, while a clean, mineral-driven finish leaves the impression of mountain air and wet stone. This is a wine meant to be enjoyed for its youthful brightness, best within the first 3–4 years from vintage, though its firm acidity and structure will allow it to hold and gain a touch of complexity over that time.
Production
The grapes for Tramin Sauvignon Pepi 2024 are sourced from high-altitude vineyards in Trentino–Alto Adige, where steep slopes, cool nights, and abundant sunshine create ideal conditions for aromatic white varieties. The region’s complex, rocky soils and the contrast between Alpine breezes and Mediterranean warmth help to preserve acidity while achieving full flavor ripeness. The fruit is carefully harvested by hand by Cantina Tramin’s member growers to ensure only healthy, perfectly ripe clusters reach the cellar. Once there, the grapes are gently pressed, and the must is fermented under controlled temperatures to lock in freshness and varietal character. The wine is then refined on its fine lees for a short period to enhance texture and aromatic complexity, all while keeping the focus on precision, purity, and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
Tramin Sauvignon Pepi 2024 is an ideal companion for light, fresh dishes where its vivid acidity and aromatic intensity can shine. Pair it with shellfish, grilled prawns, ceviche, sushi, or simply prepared white fish with herbs and lemon. It also works beautifully with goat cheese, fresh mozzarella, asparagus dishes, vegetable risottos, and vibrant salads with citrus or herbal dressings. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C (46–50°F), to highlight its freshness and aromatics. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving allows the bouquet to fully unfold.
