TR Édes 2021 Organic Tokaj

TR Édes 2021 is a lightly sweet late-harvest white wine from Tokaj, one of Hungary’s most celebrated wine regions and the historic home of the legendary Aszú dessert wines. Made primarily from Furmint and produced from organically farmed, low-yielding vines, it offers a fresh, fruit-driven introduction to Tokaj’s distinctive sweet-wine tradition.

Tasting Notes
Bright and inviting in the glass, this late-harvest wine combines natural sweetness with the lively acidity for which Furmint is known. The nose is gently aromatic, with notes of ripe orchard fruit, stone fruit and a subtle mineral character. On the palate, 76 g/l of residual sugar brings a rounded, dessert-like sweetness, balanced by refreshing acidity and a moderate 12% alcohol content. Lightly fruity rather than heavy, it is approachable now and should develop gracefully over the next few years when stored carefully.

Production
The grapes come from TR Wines’ Palota Vineyard in Tállya, within the volcanic Tokaj wine region. The 15- to 40-year-old vines are farmed organically with an emphasis on biodiversity and naturally resilient vines, while yields are kept exceptionally low at just 1–1.5 kg per plant. The grapes were hand-harvested in late October, gently whole-cluster pressed and naturally fermented in stainless-steel tanks. The wine then matured for eight months in 300-litre wooden barrels, adding subtle texture while preserving the fruit and mineral expression of the vineyard.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled at around 8–10°C. TR Édes is an excellent match for fruit-based desserts, pastries and lighter sweet dishes, while its acidity also makes it a natural partner for caramelised vegetables, grilled cheese and other savoury dishes with a touch of sweetness. It is equally enjoyable on its own as a relaxed aperitif or with dessert. Decanting is not necessary; simply chill, open and serve.

Producer
TR Wines is a young, ambitious producer working to renew the village of Tállya and celebrate its place in the historic Tokaj wine region. Founded in 2012 after the owners discovered the area’s potential, the estate now farms approximately 3.5 hectares in the Palota Vineyard. The winery received organic certification in 2020/21 and focuses on low-intervention methods, biodiversity and wines that clearly express Tokaj’s volcanic terroir. Its modern, energetic approach brings a lighter, more contemporary perspective to the region’s traditional styles, including Édes, Szamorodni and Aszú.
