Tornatore Etna Rosso 2024 is a characterful red from the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna, combining the elegance of Nerello Mascalese with the depth of Nerello Cappuccio. From one of Sicily’s most distinctive wine zones, it captures the energy of old-vine, native grape growing and the singular identity of Etna’s northern face.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a pale ruby colour with violet reflections, hinting at its fresh and vibrant style. The nose is lifted and precise, with aromas of red berries, Morello cherry and black cherry, layered with Mediterranean herbs and a delicate white-pepper spice. The palate is savoury, juicy and beautifully balanced, supported by fresh acidity and well-integrated tannins. Its fruit-driven finish is persistent and moreish, with enough structure to age gracefully for a few years, gaining added nuance and spice over time.

Production
The grapes come from Castiglione di Sicilia, Contrada Piano dei Daini, on the northern volcanic slopes of Etna, where mineral-rich soils and altitude help preserve freshness and aromatic definition. Harvest is carried out by hand in October, with careful grape selection before destemming and partial crushing. Fermentation and maceration take place in cement tanks, followed by a short period of skin contact, racking and vertical pressing. The wine is then matured in large wooden casks for around six months and refined further in bottle, a process that preserves its territorial character while adding balance and drinkability.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red for the table, especially with grilled lamb, roast poultry, mushroom dishes, tomato-based pasta and Sicilian-inspired cuisine. It also works well with aged cheeses and charcuterie. Serve at 16-18°C; decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open up the wine if enjoyed young.

The estate is closely associated with the northern slopes of the volcano and is known for championing indigenous Sicilian varieties and the region’s historic contrade.
