Description
Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Ca' Florian Riserva 2016 is a powerful, elegant expression of one of Italy’s most celebrated wine styles. Made from carefully selected Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes, this Riserva combines depth, structure, and the hallmark richness of Amarone, with the added prestige of Tommasi’s long-standing expertise in Valpolicella.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, intense garnet color with impressive concentration. The nose is layered and refined, offering dark cherry, dried plum, fig, cocoa, sweet spice, and subtle notes of tobacco, leather, and balsamic complexity.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with ripe dark fruit, warming spice, and beautifully integrated tannins balanced by fresh acidity. The finish is long and persistent, with the richness and structure to reward extended cellaring. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, likely to evolve gracefully over many years.
Production
Ca' Florian comes from the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area in Veneto, where hillside vineyards benefit from well-drained soils and a favorable microclimate. The grapes are traditionally selected by hand and undergo the appassimento method, where they are partially dried to concentrate flavor, sugar, and texture before vinification. The resulting wine is then aged carefully to build complexity and refinement.
Food & Serving
This Amarone pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as braised beef, game, osso buco, truffle pasta, and mature hard cheeses. It is also excellent as a contemplative wine on its own. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least an hour before serving to allow its aromas and structure to fully open.
Producer
Tommasi is one of the most respected family-owned producers in Valpolicella, with a history dating back to 1902. Over more than a century, the estate has become a benchmark for Amarone, known for combining tradition, precision, and consistency. Today, Tommasi is widely recognized as an important ambassador for the wines of Veneto, both in Italy and internationally.
