Description
Tignanello is one of Antinori’s most celebrated wines and a true icon of Tuscany, renowned for showing how powerful and refined Chianti Classico can be. First created in the 1970s as a bold challenge to convention, it helped define the category that became known as the Super Tuscans and remains one of Italy’s most sought-after wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Tignanello 2023 shows a deep, intense colour that hints at its concentration and structure. The nose is beautifully layered with black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, rosehip, graphite, vanilla, cedar and subtle toasted nuances, giving the wine an immediate sense of class and depth.
On the palate it is concentrated, dense and deeply flavoured, with ripe, rich fruit wrapped in a finely textured tannic frame. Exotic spice, freshness and precision keep everything in balance, while the finish is long, detailed and persistent. This is a wine with excellent cellaring potential and will continue to evolve gracefully over many years.
Production
Tignanello is produced in Tuscany from a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, sourced from carefully selected vineyards that benefit from the region’s warm days, cooling influences and well-drained soils. The wine is typically aged for 16 to 18 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels, a regimen that adds complexity, structure and subtle spice while preserving the energy and purity of the fruit.
Food & Serving
Tignanello pairs beautifully with rich Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, braised beef, game, truffle risotto and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the wine to open fully and show its layered aromas and refined structure.
Producer
Antinori is one of Italy’s most historic and influential wine families, with a winemaking legacy stretching back over six centuries. Under the leadership of Piero Antinori, the estate became a driving force behind Tuscany’s modern wine renaissance, and Tignanello stands as one of its greatest achievements—a benchmark wine that helped inspire the Super Tuscan movement and cement Antinori’s reputation on the world stage.
