Thierry Mortet’s Gevrey-Chambertin 2019 is a finely crafted Burgundy that captures the depth and precision this celebrated village is known for. Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the classic clarity of fine Burgundy, with a deep yet graceful expression of Pinot Noir. The nose opens with aromas of red and black fruits, leading into a palate that is textured and layered, with good substance, supple movement, and a full, balanced finish. There is both concentration and poise here, making it immediately appealing while still suggesting further development in bottle. With its combination of depth, freshness, and structure, it has the potential to age gracefully over the coming years, gaining additional complexity and nuance.

Production
The grapes come from vines aged between 20 and 60 years, planted on limestone-clay soils with a range of textures, including stony ground, marl, and rocky subsoil. This varied terroir contributes to the wine’s complexity, minerality, and structural balance. After harvest, the wine is aged for 16 to 17 months, with 30% in new barrels and the remainder split between container aging and older barrels before blending at bottling. This careful élevage helps preserve purity of fruit while adding subtle oak influence and refined texture.

Food & Serving
This Gevrey-Chambertin pairs beautifully with roasted duck, game birds, beef tenderloin, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if you’d like to open up its aromas and soften its structure, especially when enjoyed young.
