Description

Teo Costa Divin Natura Rosso 2017 is a characterful red from the rolling hills of Piemonte, crafted from a thoughtful blend of Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Nebbiolo. It brings together the freshness and charm of local varieties with the structure and softness of international grapes, resulting in a versatile, food‑friendly wine. The “Divin Natura” name hints at a gentler, more natural approach in the vineyard and cellar, echoing over a century of Costa family stewardship around the village of Castellinaldo.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Divin Natura Rosso 2017 shows a vibrant ruby red core with garnet hues at the rim, reflecting some bottle development while retaining a lively color. The nose opens with red and black cherry, plum and wild berries, followed by notes of dried rose, violet and a touch of earth, framed by subtle hints of spice, cocoa and a light herbal edge from the Cabernet Franc. On the palate, this is medium‑bodied with a pleasing balance between Barbera’s bright acidity and the smoother, rounder textures of Merlot. Juicy red fruits, sour cherry and blackberry are layered with gentle tannins from Nebbiolo, giving the wine grip without harshness. There’s a savory undercurrent and a clean, dry finish, making it very drinkable at the table. While already in its prime, the 2017 vintage can continue to evolve gracefully for a few more years, gaining additional tertiary notes of leather and dried fruit if cellared well.

Production
The grapes for Teo Costa Divin Natura Rosso come from the hilly vineyards around Castellinaldo in Piemonte, an area known for its calcareous and clay‑limestone soils that naturally limit yields and enhance concentration. The Costa family has long worked these slopes, paying close attention to the balance between vine and environment; careful, mostly manual work in the vineyard ensures healthy, ripe fruit at harvest. Each variety is typically harvested separately at optimal ripeness, then vinified to preserve its distinct character before blending. Fermentation takes place in temperature‑controlled conditions to retain aromatics, followed by maturation in stainless steel and possibly large, neutral wood to soften the tannins while keeping the wine’s fresh, fruit‑driven personality at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Divin Natura Rosso 2017 is an excellent companion to classic Italian dishes such as tomato‑based pastas, lasagne, pizza with cured meats, and richly sauced ragùs. It also pairs beautifully with grilled sausages, roast chicken, pork loin, charcuterie and semi‑mature cheeses like Fontina or Taleggio. Serve at 16–18°C (around 60–64°F) to highlight the fruit and aromatics; a brief 30‑minute decant can help the wine open up if enjoyed in its youth or straight after uncorking.

Producer
For well over a century, the Costa family has tended the rolling hills surrounding the picturesque village of Castellinaldo in Piemonte. Today, Teo Costa is led by Roberto Costa, who serves as president of the local growers’ association “I Vignaioli di Castellinaldo,” tirelessly promoting the area as a distinctive and worthy subzone for Barbera d’Alba. Under his guidance, the estate combines deep regional roots with a forward‑looking mindset, championing wines that express Castellinaldo’s identity while remaining accessible and enjoyable. Their work has played an important role in elevating the reputation of this corner of Piemonte, particularly for expressive, terroir‑driven Barberas and blends such as Divin Natura Rosso.
