Description
Teo Costa Divin Natura Bianco 2017 is a characterful Italian white that brings together the native Arneis grape with the internationally loved Sauvignon Blanc. Crafted in the rolling hills of Piemonte, it offers a vibrant, food‑friendly profile with a clear sense of place. The “Divin Natura” name hints at a more natural, environmentally conscious approach, making this a thoughtful choice for those who value both quality and authenticity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Divin Natura Bianco 2017 shows a pale straw to light lemon color with subtle greenish highlights, suggesting freshness and youthful energy even with some bottle age. On the nose, expect fragrant aromas of white flowers, pear, green apple and citrus zest, layered with hints of fresh herbs and a gentle mineral note—Arneis lending delicate orchard fruit and floral tones, while Sauvignon Blanc contributes lift and aromatic intensity.
The palate is dry, medium‑bodied and lively, with a refreshing line of acidity that keeps the wine crisp and precise. Flavors of ripe pear, apple, lime and a touch of white peach are supported by herbal and lightly grassy nuances from the Sauvignon, and a faint almond or nutty note typical of Arneis on the finish. The texture is smooth yet energetic, making it versatile at the table. While 2017 now drinks in a beautiful, evolved phase with more integrated aromas and flavors, it is best enjoyed within a few years of release for optimum freshness, rather than long‑term cellaring.
Production
Sourced from vineyards in the softly undulating hills around the picturesque village of Castellinaldo in Piemonte, Divin Natura Bianco reflects a terroir of clay‑ and limestone‑rich soils, good drainage and a temperate climate with pronounced diurnal shifts. These conditions help preserve acidity while allowing Arneis and Sauvignon Blanc to ripen with complexity and aromatic intensity. The “Divin Natura” designation suggests careful, sustainable vineyard practices, with close attention to the health of the vines and surrounding environment. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure only the best clusters reach the cellar, then gently pressed and fermented at controlled, cool temperatures in stainless steel to capture pure fruit character and freshness. Malolactic fermentation is usually limited or avoided to maintain a crisp profile, with the wine resting for a short period on fine lees to add a touch of texture and finesse before bottling.
Food & Serving
This Piemonte white is a natural partner for seafood and lighter dishes: think grilled or baked white fish, shellfish, seafood risotto, or simple pasta with clams. It also pairs beautifully with fresh goat cheese, mild soft cheeses, vegetable antipasti, asparagus dishes and vibrant salads with citrus or herb dressings. Serve well‑chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic lift. Decanting is not necessary; simply open the bottle shortly before serving, allowing it a few minutes in the glass to unfold its floral and citrus‑driven complexity.
Producer
The Costa family has been tending vines in the hills around Castellinaldo in Piemonte for well over a century, building a deep, multi‑generational understanding of their land. Today, Teo Costa is closely associated with Roberto Costa, a driving force behind the local growers’ association “I Vignaioli di Castellinaldo.” As president, he has devoted his energy to putting Castellinaldo firmly on the map, particularly as a valuable subzone for Barbera d’Alba, while also championing high‑quality whites that reflect the region’s potential beyond red wines. The estate’s commitment to careful vineyard stewardship and expressive, terroir‑driven bottlings has helped solidify its reputation as an important voice in this corner of Piemonte.
