Tasting Notes
In the glass, Sassicaia 2011 shows a deep ruby-red color with impressive density. The bouquet is layered and expressive, opening with ripe red berries and blackcurrant before unfolding into cedar, spice, minerals, and a refined hint of tobacco. On the palate, it is structured yet polished, with elegant tannins, lively acidity, and a long, savory finish marked by licorice, spice, and subtle earthy notes. The warm, dry 2011 vintage gave the wine early accessibility, but it has the balance and depth to age beautifully for 10–15 years or more, gaining added complexity over time.

Production
The grapes come from stony, well-drained vineyards in Bolgheri, where the coastal Tuscan terroir helps preserve freshness while adding a distinctive mineral character. The 2011 vintage was warm and dry, so harvest took place early to maintain natural acidity and aromatic precision. Fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks, followed by 24 months of maturation in French oak barrels and additional bottle aging before release.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for grilled or roasted red meats, game, lamb, and rich dishes with herbs, mushrooms, or truffle. It also pairs well with aged cheeses and slow-braised meats. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now to help the wine fully open, especially in magnum format.
