Tasting Notes
In the glass, Ugolforte shows a vibrant ruby core with garnet reflections at the rim, hinting at both youth and serious structure. The nose is immediately expressive, with pure red cherry and wild strawberry layered over notes of dried rose, blood orange peel, sweet spice and a touch of tobacco and cedar. Subtle hints of balsamic, underbrush and warm terracotta add complexity as it opens. On the palate, this Brunello is precise and focused, with a firm but polished tannic backbone wrapped around juicy red and black cherry fruit. Flavors of plum, sour cherry and pomegranate mingle with savory tones of leather, dried herbs, licorice and fine oak spice. The acidity is bright and mouthwatering, stretching the finish and giving lift to the wine’s darker, earthy undertones. Still youthful, it will gain even more nuance with time, and has excellent aging potential of 12–18 years from the vintage under proper cellaring.

Production
Tenuta San Giorgio’s vineyards lie on the southeastern slopes of Montalcino, where a mix of galestro (friable schist), limestone and clay soils, along with significant diurnal temperature swings, give Sangiovese both ripeness and aromatic finesse. The estate farms with a strong focus on sustainability, carefully managing yields and often harvesting by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy bunches reach the cellar. After a gentle destemming and fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, the wine undergoes a long maceration to extract fine tannins and complex aromatics. It is then aged for several years in large Slavonian oak casks and selected French oak vessels before extended bottle aging, allowing the powerful structure of Brunello to integrate and the wine’s characteristic perfume to fully develop.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for rich, savory dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-braised lamb shanks, wild boar ragù, truffle risotto or oven-roasted game birds. Aged cheeses, particularly mature Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano Reggiano, also make superb companions. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in generously sized red wine glasses. Decanting for 1–2 hours before serving is recommended in its youth to help the tannins soften and the complex bouquet fully unfurl.
