Description
Taylor Lane Pinot Noir 2014 Magnum is a rare and highly sought-after release from Belle Glos, presented exclusively in magnum format and aged in the winery’s cool cellars until its 2023 unveiling. As the first Belle Glos wine from the West Sonoma Coast AVA, it captures the energy of one of Sonoma’s newest and coolest coastal sites, with a level of individuality that makes it especially compelling for collectors and Pinot Noir lovers alike.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows the sort of depth and polish you’d expect from a mature coastal Pinot Noir, with an aromatic profile that is both savory and layered. The nose opens with dried thyme, wild forest floor, caramel, and spiced cranberry sauce, creating a beautifully complex bouquet that feels earthy, lifted, and subtly sweet-spiced.
On the palate, it delivers impressive breadth and concentration, with richness balanced by the cool-climate freshness of the site. Age has softened the edges and added nuance, bringing greater silkiness, harmony, and complexity. This is a Pinot Noir with real presence now, yet it should continue to hold and evolve gracefully for years to come.
Production
Taylor Lane comes from a cool vineyard near the coast in the West Sonoma Coast, an AVA known for its marine influence, brisk temperatures, and ideal conditions for expressive, finely structured Pinot Noir. According to Joe Wagner, the site was planted with his help during his high school years, and his early belief in its potential clearly paid off in the form of a top-tier cuvée. The wine was bottled only in magnum, sealed with wax, and matured in Belle Glos’ cool cellars before release, allowing it to develop added depth and finesse over time.
Food & Serving
Serve this Pinot Noir slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, to bring out its aromatic complexity and silky texture. It pairs beautifully with roasted duck, herb-crusted lamb, mushroom dishes, game birds, and truffle-inflected cuisine, while its savory-sweet spice also makes it a great match for roast chicken with cranberry or glazed pork. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if serving young from release, though older magnums may only need a gentle splash to open up.
Producer
Belle Glos, founded by Joe Wagner, has built a strong reputation for bold, richly textured California Pinot Noir with a clear sense of site expression. The winery has become particularly well known for its single-vineyard bottlings and distinctive presentation, often combining luxury cues with serious vineyard sourcing. Within California, Belle Glos stands out as a modern benchmark producer for expressive coastal Pinot Noir, and releases like Taylor Lane underline its ability to craft wines with both power and elegance.
