Description

Château Talbot is one of Saint-Julien’s most recognisable names, offering a classic Left Bank Bordeaux with depth, structure, and refinement. As a 4ème Grand Cru Classé from the historic 1855 Classification, the 2019 vintage combines Cabernet Sauvignon-led power with polished elegance and immediate charm.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine typically shows a deep ruby-garnet colour with a bright, youthful edge. The nose is expressive and layered, with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, and subtle floral and spice notes. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with firm but ripe tannins, fresh acidity, and a core of dark fruit balanced by savoury tobacco, pencil shavings, and a touch of vanilla or toast from oak ageing. The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux is widely regarded as a strong one, and Talbot should age gracefully for many years, gaining additional complexity and silkier texture over time. While enjoyable in its youth after a little air, it has the structure to develop beautifully over the next 10–20 years depending on storage conditions.

Production
Château Talbot’s vineyards in Saint-Julien sit on well-drained gravel soils that are ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Petit Verdot adding softness, depth, and aromatic lift. The grapes are typically harvested plot by plot at optimal ripeness, then vinified with careful temperature control to preserve freshness and varietal character. Ageing in French oak barrels helps to build structure and complexity while keeping the wine’s classic Bordeaux balance intact.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, and richly flavoured dishes such as mushroom risotto or grilled game. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open and soften.

Producer
Château Talbot is a historic estate in Saint-Julien with a reputation for consistency and classic Bordeaux style. Named after the English military commander John Talbot, the château has long been associated with quality and tradition, and it remains one of the most admired properties in the Médoc. Its standing as a Grand Cru Classé has made it a benchmark producer for refined, ageworthy Left Bank wines.
