Description
Taittinger Champagne Prestige Brut is a benchmark non-vintage Champagne that captures the elegance and finesse for which this historic house is renowned. With a notably high proportion of Chardonnay in the blend, it delivers a refined, crystalline style that appeals to both seasoned Champagne lovers and those discovering the category. Rooted in the chalk soils of Champagne and crafted using traditional methods passed down through generations, Prestige Brut is a modern classic with deep historical ties.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Taittinger Prestige Brut shows a pale, shimmering gold color with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. On the nose, it offers lifted aromas of fresh citrus, green apple, white flowers, and chalky minerality, layered with hints of brioche, toasted nuts, and subtle stone fruits.
The palate is lively and precise, driven by Chardonnay’s freshness and purity. Expect bright notes of lemon zest, crunchy orchard fruit, and pear, rounded out by a creamy texture and gentle brioche and biscuit tones from extended lees aging. The finish is clean, long, and elegantly dry, making it both a perfect apéritif and an excellent food companion. While designed to drink beautifully upon release, this NV Champagne can gain further complexity over 3–5 years of careful cellaring.
Production
Sourced from carefully selected vineyards across the Champagne region of France, Taittinger Prestige Brut highlights the house style with a relatively high share of Chardonnay (typically around 40%), complemented by Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The vines grow on classic Champagne terroirs with chalk and limestone-rich subsoils that contribute to the wine’s finesse, tension, and mineral backbone. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure pristine fruit selection, then gently pressed to preserve delicacy. Each grape variety and vineyard lot is vinified separately in stainless steel before blending, allowing the cellar master to craft a consistent house style. The cuvée then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and rests on its lees in Taittinger’s historic chalk cellars for several years, developing its fine bead, subtle autolytic notes, and signature elegance.
Food & Serving
Taittinger Prestige Brut is superb as an apéritif and remarkably versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with oysters, caviar, sushi, sashimi, and delicate seafood dishes such as scallops, prawns, or poached white fish. It also complements light poultry, goat’s cheese, and refined canapés or tempura-style appetizers. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F). While decanting is not necessary, opening the bottle a few minutes before serving and pouring into proper Champagne flutes or tulip-shaped glasses will allow the aromas and mousse to express themselves fully.
Producer
Founded in 1734, Taittinger is one of Champagne’s oldest and most respected houses, based in Reims in the heart of the region. The family-owned estate is particularly known for championing Chardonnay in its blends, giving its wines a distinctive elegance and finesse compared with many other grandes marques. Taittinger owns extensive, high-quality vineyard holdings, including prized Grand Cru sites, and matures its wines in historic Gallo-Roman chalk cellars that provide ideal aging conditions. Over the years, the house has built a global reputation for consistency, refinement, and gastronomic versatility, with Prestige Brut standing as one of its flagship expressions.
