Description
Taittinger Champagne Brut Millésimé 2016 captures the elegance of a single, characterful vintage from one of Champagne’s most respected houses. Crafted only in years deemed exceptional, this vintage cuvée highlights the refined, Chardonnay-driven style for which Taittinger is renowned, balanced by the structure and depth of Pinot Noir. The 2016 season in Champagne produced wines of precision and freshness, and this Millésimé reflects that beautifully with its tension, purity, and aging potential.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Taittinger Brut Millésimé 2016 shows a bright, pale golden color with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. The nose is refined and expressive, offering notes of white flowers, citrus zest, and green orchard fruits, layered with hints of brioche, fresh pastry, and subtle chalky minerality.
On the palate, the wine is dry, tense, and elegantly structured, with Chardonnay bringing clarity and lift while Pinot Noir contributes body and length. Flavors of crisp pear, lemon cream, and white peach mingle with toasted hazelnut and a light biscuity richness, all carried by a precise, saline finish. The balance of ripe fruit, vibrant acidity, and fine mousse suggests excellent aging potential: this 2016 can be enjoyed now for its youthful energy, but will gain more complexity and nuance over the next 8–12 years in a good cellar.
Production
The fruit for Taittinger Champagne Brut Millésimé 2016 comes from selected vineyards in the heart of the Champagne region, rooted in classic chalk and limestone soils that lend finesse, tension, and a distinctive mineral line. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of only the healthiest, ripest bunches. After gentle pressing, the base wines from individual plots are vinified separately in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity, then blended to capture the character of the 2016 vintage. The wine undergoes its second fermentation in bottle and is aged for several years on the lees in Taittinger’s historic chalk cellars, gaining texture, depth, and subtle autolytic complexity before disgorgement and dosage.
Food & Serving
This vintage Champagne is a natural match for refined dishes such as oysters, scallop carpaccio, sushi and sashimi, or lobster with a light citrus butter. It also pairs beautifully with poultry in cream sauces, delicate white fish, or aged hard cheeses like Comté and Parmigiano Reggiano. Serve well-chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its precision and aromatic detail. A brief decant is generally not necessary, but pouring the wine into large, tulip-shaped Champagne glasses and giving it a few minutes in the glass will allow the bouquet to open fully.
