Description
Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 is a refined Napa Valley red that combines depth, elegance, and age-worthy structure in one beautifully composed wine. Built on a classic Bordeaux-inspired blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it reflects both the richness of California Cabernet and the precision that has made Spottswoode a benchmark estate in St. Helena for decades.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet color that hints at both concentration and maturity. The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, and cherry lifted by subtle notes of dried herbs, tobacco, and a touch of espresso.
The palate is full-bodied and generously fruited, yet remains graceful and well balanced. Fine, structured tannins carry the wine through a long, persistent finish, adding dimension and giving it excellent aging potential. While already highly enjoyable, it has the depth and composure to evolve gracefully for many years.
Production
Produced from Spottswoode’s estate vineyards in Napa Valley, the wine benefits from a terroir known for its warm days, cooling influences, and well-drained soils that support ripe, structured Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot is crafted to bring together power, aromatic complexity, and firm backbone. Harvested with careful attention to ripeness, the wine is vinified to preserve fruit purity, varietal character, and the polished structure that defines the estate style.
Food & Serving
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, or dishes featuring mushrooms and herbs. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if enjoyed young, to allow the aromatics and tannins to open fully.
