Description

Sociando-Mallet is one of the standout names in Haut-Médoc, known for producing classically styled Bordeaux with impressive depth, structure, and age-worthiness. The 2023 vintage continues that tradition, offering a compelling example of why this estate is so highly regarded among Bordeaux enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes
Expect a deep, dark ruby color in the glass. The nose typically leans toward blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, cedar, and subtle floral or spice notes, with a refined, earthy edge that reflects the estate’s classic style. On the palate, Sociando-Mallet is usually firm, precise, and layered, combining ripe dark fruit with vibrant freshness, fine tannins, and a long, savory finish. The 2023 should have strong aging potential, developing additional complexity with several years in bottle.

Production
Produced in the Haut-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux, the wine comes from gravelly, well-drained soils that are well suited to the region’s traditional red grape varieties. Sociando-Mallet is known for careful vineyard work and a vinification approach aimed at preserving purity, structure, and terroir expression, resulting in a wine with notable balance and character.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled ribeye, duck breast, game dishes, and slow-cooked beef preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open up fully.

Producer
Château Sociando-Mallet has built a strong reputation in Bordeaux for producing consistently high-quality wines that often punch above their classification status. Though not formally classified in the 1855 ranking, the estate is widely respected for its reliability, classic style, and cellar-worthy wines, making it a favorite among serious Bordeaux drinkers.
