Description
Sociando-Mallet 2022 is a standout Haut-Médoc red that captures the structure, depth, and classic Cabernet-led character Bordeaux lovers look for. Produced by one of the Left Bank’s most respected estates, it offers serious quality and age-worthy appeal in a style that consistently punches above its class.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, expect a deep, concentrated ruby-purple color that hints at its intensity. The nose typically opens with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, pencil lead, and subtle floral and earthy notes, reflecting the estate’s classic Left Bank profile.
On the palate, the wine is usually firm and precise, with ripe dark fruit framed by fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. A mineral edge and savory complexity give it real definition, and the 2022 vintage should have the concentration and balance to age beautifully for years, developing greater nuance with bottle time.
Production
Sociando-Mallet’s vineyards lie on the gravelly, clay-limestone soils of the Haut-Médoc, a terroir well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with the gravel helping drainage and the subsoil retaining enough moisture for balance in warm vintages. The estate is known for meticulous vineyard management and careful harvesting at optimal ripeness.
Vinification is traditionally Bordeaux-focused, with plot selection, controlled fermentation, and élevage in oak barrels to preserve structure and terroir expression while adding polish and complexity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, entrecôte, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or slow-cooked game dishes, as well as hard cheeses like Comté or matured Gouda. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the wine open up and soften its tannins.
Producer
Sociando-Mallet is one of the most admired independent estates in the Haut-Médoc, long valued for producing wines of exceptional consistency and character despite not being classified in the 1855 ranking. Under the stewardship of the Cuvelier family, the property has built a strong reputation for classic, age-worthy Bordeaux with outstanding value and a loyal following among collectors.
