Description
Sociando-Mallet 2020 is a classic Haut-Médoc red that delivers serious Bordeaux character without the need for a first-growth label. Built on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, it combines structure, freshness, and depth in a style that has made the estate one of the most admired names in the northern Médoc.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby to garnet color with impressive concentration. The nose leans toward blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and subtle spice, with the vintage’s ripeness bringing added polish.
On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied with firm but refined tannins, bright acidity, and layers of cassis, plum, earthy mineral notes, and oak spice. The finish is long and composed, suggesting excellent aging potential; while enjoyable in its youth with proper aeration, it should develop beautifully over the next 10 to 20 years.
Production
Sociando-Mallet is located in the Haut-Médoc, where gravelly and clay-limestone soils help Cabernet Sauvignon ripen while preserving freshness and structure. The vineyard is known for its careful parcel selection and traditional Bordeaux approach, with grapes harvested by hand or with meticulous sorting depending on the parcel and vintage. Vinification is carried out in a classic style designed to emphasize purity, balance, and age-worthy tannin structure, followed by maturation in oak barrels.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs especially well with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, duck breast, beef tenderloin, and hearty mushroom dishes. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to खुल?
Producer
Sociando-Mallet is a benchmark estate in the Haut-Médoc, long respected for producing wines of exceptional consistency and value. Although not classified in the 1855 system, the château has earned a strong reputation among Bordeaux enthusiasts for its authentic, terroir-driven style and its ability to age gracefully. Under the Sociando-Mallet name, the estate has become a reference point for classic Left Bank Bordeaux.
