Description
Sociando-Mallet 2018 is a classic Haut-Médoc built for Bordeaux lovers who appreciate structure, precision, and longevity. Blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, it reflects the estate’s reputation for producing serious, age-worthy wines with remarkable consistency.
Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep ruby color with youthful intensity. On the nose, expect dark cassis, blackberry, cedar, tobacco, graphite, and a subtle floral lift from the Cabernet Franc. The palate is firm and focused, with ripe black fruit, savory spice, fine tannins, and a fresh mineral edge that gives the wine real energy.
This is a wine that can drink well in its youth with proper aeration, but it is also built to evolve beautifully over time. With bottle age, the fruit will soften and integrate, revealing more classic Bordeaux notes of leather, earth, and forest floor.
Production
Sociando-Mallet is located in the northern Haut-Médoc, where gravelly soils and a cooler Atlantic-influenced climate favor Cabernet Sauvignon and help preserve freshness in the finished wine. The estate is known for careful vineyard work and selective harvesting, aiming for full ripeness without losing balance. Vinification follows a traditional Bordeaux approach, with fermentation and élevage designed to preserve the wine’s structure, depth, and purity of fruit.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, entrecôte, game, duck breast, and mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the aromas and tannins to open up.
Producer
Sociando-Mallet is a respected, family-run estate in Bordeaux’s Haut-Médoc, long admired by collectors for delivering grand cru-level ambition without a classified growth label. The property has earned a strong reputation for producing reliable, terroir-driven wines that combine concentration, freshness, and aging potential. Over the years, it has become one of the most sought-after names among serious Bordeaux enthusiasts.
